to 25, 2026
On March 25, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the first edition of Café PROTEO-ULaval took place at the CR-NCH at Hôpital l’Enfant-Jésus.
During this event, Mia Pelletier, a doctoral candidate in Bruno Gaillet’s laboratory, and Guy Poirier, a member of PROTEO-ULaval and full professor in the Department of Molecular Biology, Medical Biochemistry, and Pathology, served as the two speakers.
The event unfolded as follows:
1:00 p.m. – Welcome
1:30 p.m. – Mia Pelletier, PhD candidate in Bruno Gaillet’s laboratory
Title: Study of pulmonary delivery of antisense oligonucleotides via amphiphilic peptides in a context of mucus hypersecretion
Description: This presentation will focus on our work aimed at optimizing a peptide-based platform for intracellular pulmonary delivery.
We are investigating the ability of amphiphilic peptides to deliver antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) in a pathological context of mucus hypersecretion using several in vitro and in vivo models. Intracellular ASO delivery could reduce the expression of a key gene involved in muco-obstructive lung diseases, thereby reducing mucus hypersecretion.
2.00 pm – Guy Poirier, Full Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology, Medical Biochemistry and Pathology
Title: 50 Years of Proteomics, PARP and DNA Repair
Description: Professor Poirier will reflect on his 50-year career studying the structure and function of proteins across two continents. He will explain how his research led to the discovery of a new class of proteases and the establishment of a protein mass spectrometry platform available to the entire research community at Laval University. He will also highlight how the PARP enzyme became a therapeutic target in 2014. Dr Poirier has trained over 50 postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and research professionals.
2.30 pm – Small-group tour of the new research centre
3.00 pm – Coffee and discussion
The first edition of Café PROTEO-ULaval brought together more than twenty people. Thank you to everyone for coming along.
